Every Melody is a Journey

Melodies aren't random notes - they're emotional journeys through scale degrees. The path you take determines how the music feels.

Three Example Journeys

The Wanderer - Never quite resolves

Pattern: 3-6-2-7-4-6-2-5...
Feels unsettled, searching, mysterious

The Adventure - Tension and release

Pattern: 1-3-6-4-2-5-7-1
Builds tension then satisfying resolution

Simple Joy - Stable and satisfying

Pattern: 1-5-1-3-1
Simple, happy, complete

Journey Analysis

Every journey has:
β€’ Starting point - Where you begin emotionally
β€’ High point - The climax or peak tension
β€’ Resolution - How you return home (or don't!)
β€’ Pacing - How quickly you move between stable/unstable

Emotion Through Movement

Peaceful: Stay close to 1-3-5
Exciting: Jump between distant degrees
Mysterious: Avoid 1, use 2-4-6-7
Triumphant: Strong movements to 1
Sad: Emphasize 6 and minor movements

Famous Melody Patterns

β€’ Happy Birthday: 5-5-6-5-1-7
β€’ Twinkle Twinkle: 1-1-5-5-6-6-5
β€’ Amazing Grace: 1-3-5-3-5-6-5-3-1

Notice how each creates its character through scale degree choices!
