The 7 → 1 Pull
That need you felt for the final note? That's the leading tone pull — the strongest force in Western music.
7 is unstable. 1 is home. 7 pulls to 1 like gravity.
Other Pulls
7→1 is the strongest, but other pulls exist:
• 2 → 1: Gentle step home
• 4 → 3: Soft resolution
Build Tension, Then Release
Create melodies that build tension and release it:
• Wander around 5, 6, 7... then resolve to 1
• Start on 1, climb to 7, fall back to 1
Hear the Pull Everywhere
"Happy Birthday" ends with 2 → 1.
"Twinkle Twinkle" has the classic 7 → 1.
Every satisfying melody ending uses these pulls. Start listening for them.
